Corneal sequestra in cats: 175 eyes from 172 cases (2000–2016)

Objectives To report the clinical outcomes of different surgical treatments used to manage feline corneal sequestra in a large number cases. Materials and Methods Medical records 172 cats affected by surgically managed techniques were retrospectively evaluated. Signalment, technique, visual outcomes, postoperative clarity recurrence Results One hundred seventy-two (175 eyes) breeds, ages sex included retrospective case series. The Persian was most represented breed (123/172; 71.5%), followed Exotic Shorthair (21/172; 12.2%), Domestic shorthair 12.2%) smaller group other breeds (7/172). Surgical management superficial (84/175 or deep (91/175 lamellar keratectomy association with following covering (tectonic support and/or protective support): nictitans membrane flap (n=84), conjunctival pedicle graft (n=52), BioSISt (n=9), corneoconjunctival transposition (n=7), transposition+nictitans (n=6), free island BioSISt+conjunctival BioSISt+nictitans (n=4) bridge (n=1). At end series, visus present all patients no mild opacity detected 86% (151/175 patients. Sequestra recurred 20 eyes (20/175; 11.4%) within 2 years. Clinical Significance This paper describes cases treated varying provides useful insight regarding prognosis these ophthalmology.
